During the Crimean War (Russo Turkish War) 1853 1856, Russian troops were besieged by the British and French at Sevastopol (Sebastopol) from 17 October 1854 to 8 9 September 1855. The city finally fell and the Russians blew up the forts and magazines before they marched out on 11 September.
